The iconic Krugerrand is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2017. The Krugerrand was a world first.

The name 'Krugerrand' was derived by combining Paul "Kruger', President of the original Zuid Afrikaansche Republiek, with the 'rand', the monetary unit of South Africa. The rand is also linked to the Witwatersrand, a name meaning 'the ridge of white water', an important gold-producing area.

Each 2017-dated Krugerrand bears a privy mark to commemorate the 50th anniversary of this unique coin series.

This 1 oz fine-silver premium uncirculated Krugerrand coin is being issued for the first time in 2017 as part of the wider 50th anniversary celebrations of the Krugerrand.
