The one photo shows MAURICE HUGH UDELL, EDWIN KING BUFORD Jr., & WILLIAM DUNLOP SHANNON in front of the Davis Cleaners, The Crystal Restaurant & The UPTOWN Theater, which was playing “By The Light of the Silvery Moon” starring Doris Day.
MAURICE HUGH UDALL was born May 18, 1931, to Hugh, a US Postal Worker & Iva M Udell. Maurice received a BS Degree in Business Administration from the U of M. After graduation, he was commissioned in the US Air Force as a second lieutenant. He married Anjelica J. HUSTED on April 10, 1954, had 3 kids, then divorced July 18, 1981. He remarried July 18, 1981, to Virginia, but again divorced November 22, 1989.
In 1968, he volunteered for combat duty where he served in the Philippines & flew 21 sorties over North & South Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, & Thailand. During his US Air Force career he received numerous military decorations & awards including the General Price Top Gun Award! He retired as a Colonel & died August 22, 2011.
DR. EDWIN KING BUFORD Jr. was born on November 24, 1933 to city bus driver Edwin King Buford Sr. & County High School Spanish teacher Anna Ruth WHITFIELD. Buford was in the ROTC while at U of M, then served as a Captain in the US Air Force. Following medical school he interned at Walter Reed Hospital & served in USAF Medical Corps until 1963. He married Carol Sue RICHMOND on June 5, 1956, and opened a family practice in Cape Girardeau, MO in 1963. He passed away April 13, 2021.
WILLIAM DUNLOP SHANNON was born December 10, 1933 to Edwin B. & Martha Shannon. In 1950, the family lived next door to St. Louis Browns’ baseball player William “Billy” DEMARS. Shannon attended U of M & died in Texas on February 9, 1988.
All three men were members of the PHI GAMMA DELTA fraternity at U of M.
