Key Age Silver Age Comic from Marvel Comics Group & getting harder to find without busting the budget. This comic has some wear as shown in pictures, but still a nice sought after comic to have with strong colors & image appeal. It is complete & original, no pen marks or cut outs or noted damage other than general wear as noted. The cover has some general wear to the edges, corners, spine & staples but a very nice display appeal as it maintains some of the original sheen to front cover (but not fully glossy) & the colors are strong inside & out. Solid and mostly flat spine as shown. There a few moderate color break creases at the bottom right of cover and a mild prior gentle fold line at lower two inches of bottom right and in underlying pages if you look super close. We only noticed it when taking close ups. Also, a mild page fold on interior upper right 1/3" on a few inside pages.
The interior pages are really nice but a little off white & mostly uniform in color with strong colors & print. No tears or notable blips that we could see. The back cover has darkened a bit from age but is solid with some minor loss of flexibility. This comic came from a collector with a closet full of Silver Agers, but all stacked without bag & board. Most would have been higher grades, but the back covers had tanned or had color transfer as this one, while interior pages remain really strong as well as front covers. So this may display better than we can grade it. The video gives the best look at the comic. Sorry for some shadows in the pictures & video, its hard to shoot close ups without such sometimes.
Pretty solid comic, without moderate wear to the cover as noted & shown we would put this comic at 7.5, but the wear is present, so the cover is probably a 6.0, but interior pages could fit a 7.5 comic in our opinion. We would grade overall between a 6.0 (F) to 6.5 (F+), but you can judge for yourself by pictures & video taken. Let us know if you have questions. Great comic for a "gentle" read and put away.
We love our comic book collectors and they are truly the best people we have dealt with in 25 years of selling collectibles & other. For that reason, we normally do not utilize grading services on comics as we feel they actually do not allow a buyer to see a comic in full view if it is incapsulated. Even with the mint & near mint 9+ comics we sell, we avoid graders, we let the Buyers decide while offering general comments of note. We feel comics are not like simple front & back collector cards, comics have a full life & story within them that should be weighted in equal measure (or at least some measure) with the front & back covers. Buyers deserve a full view of what they are buying.
So, when offering an opinion on a comic's grade or condition, we do try to utilize the more accepted & common grading standards used by professional grading services with a somewhat conservative lean. In addition, we try to detail the overall condition of a comic, including interior pages along with the cover. We show multiple interior page photos & video comics when possible to further assist you in determining what you feel a comic's condition & value may be. You can also use the zoom feature to get an even better look. Finally, we always suggest that buyers use their own opinions on grading & value & not our own & we cannot guarantee what a service may grade a comic at compared to our opinion. While we have never had a legitimate complaint on our descriptions of comics or other collectibles, antiques & other items we sell, we are not perfect.
We try to start our auction (or priced) listings below reasonable market value based on our observations & sales information (price guides & online sales) available, but we know all people are free to judge as they feel is correct. Note also, occasionally comics may be selling higher or lower than current price guide values due to market changes, death of artists, film releases or other factors. All value is ultimately determined by what buyers are willing to pay, based on their opinions.
90% of our Comics are sold as part of a private collection amassed by a consignor covering 40 years of 1940's-1980's comics. Over 1,000 #1's, 1st Issues or 1st Appearances coming as time goes by as the collector focused on those. This is a consignor & not our own collection. Many from his collection have been bagged & put away for over 35 years. We have already sold over 300 #1's including the X-Men #1 (1963), Iron Man #1, Aqua Man #1, Archie #1, Peanuts #1, Mickey Mouse #1, Captain America #1, lots of 1950's TV Genre #1's and dozens more #1 Super Heroes, rare War Comics, Disney, Sci-Fi, Horror, Super Scarce Goldies, and other. We will keep listing as time allows.
