Rare 1909 1st edition Legion Frontiersman Pocket book - link with Boy Scouts and Robert Baden Powell - in very good condition.

The Legion of Frontiersman was founded in 1905 by Roger Pocock - he was a Boer War veteran and knew Robert Baden Powell. Many of the early Scout Leaders were Frontiersman and Baden Powell had originally suggested that the Scout Magazine would be called the Legion of Scouts.

The Legion of Frontiersman were formed to provide an instant fighting force to counter any invasion of Britain or it's Empire.

Ernest Shackleton was a Frontiersman.

They were a civilian nationalist paramilitary organisation and were also early information gatherers. Their HQ were in London but they had branches all over the Empire. The First World War (1914-1918) devastated their numbers. They were the first ones to get to Belgium to fight the 'enemy' even before the start of the War.

You can imagine how the early Boy Scouts would have looked up to these rugged outdoor types; on horseback and armed.

The pocket book is very solid - in good condition.
