Greetings! I offer this B-flat trumpet marked "Ambassador / Made By / F.E. OLDS & SON / Fullerton / Calif". Serial number 202585 indicates production in 1957. Construction is yellow brass with nickel trim. This was Olds' student-line offering and is considered the best student trumpet ever built. Many musicians today still play Ambassadors as backup horns, and they are held in great respect because they were built like tanks, to the same tolerances and with the same materials and mandrels as Olds' professional models. Legendary jazz trumpeter Lee Morgan played and recorded on an Olds Ambassador.
CONDITION: This Ambassador trumpet is one of the best-playing examples I've had. Very good mechanically, and fair cosmetically. The original lacquer finish is about 40%% intact, with wear overall and some light pitting on the exterior from holding the instrument. Just honest play wear—see photos. The valves are fairly tight for a 56-year-old horn, with excellent action and a little bit of blow-by. There are a few small dings here and there, and some stand dings and well-repaired dents in the bell flare. All caps turn, all slides pull smoothly; the 3rd slide throw functions pretty well but could use a bit attention for better action. There is a small area of plating wear on the 3rd piston. It doesn’t impair the valve action. Mouthpiece (Frank Holton & Co. 7C), music lyre, and original case key are included. The instrument has been cleaned and serviced, and should be ready to play right out of the box. The case is solid with light/moderate wear & tear. Both latch hasps and springs function, and the case is very serviceable. The instrument is sold AS-IS, with no warranties. See pictures. WYSIWYG.
PLAYING QUALITIES: It plays very well, and I'd have no qualms about using it on a gig. NOTE that I make no representations made about its suitability for your intended use.
ACCESSORIES: Original case in good condition, Frank Holton & Co. 7C mouthpiece, music lyre, slide grease, and original case key. See pictures; WYSIWYG.
