This is a beautiful and historically significant original color etching by renowned Austrian-American printmaker Luigi Kasimir (1881–1962), known for his pioneering multi-plate color etching technique.

This striking New York City scene captures the towering skyscrapers of Lower Manhattan rising dramatically above the bustling docks and boats. Kasimir’s innovative style is evident in the intricate architectural details, atmospheric perspective, and the energetic “unfinished” quality in the lower foreground (with visible drafting lines) that gives way to a solidified, powerful cityscape above. Created during his time in New York in the late 1920s, it vividly reflects the energy and growth of the metropolis. The multi-plate color process produces rich tonal depth and naturalistic hues without any hand-coloring after printing.

Kasimir’s works are held in major collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art. His New York scenes are particularly sought after by collectors of American urban views and early 20th-century prints.
