This is a fine example of 1920s–1940s French or Continental European decorative lighting. Featuring the classic urn (baluster) shape, the lamp has a substantial, thick double-walled mercury (silvered) glass body adorned with a striking deep hand-cut diamond/crisscross geometric pattern. The pattern catches and reflects light beautifully, creating a glamorous, sparkling effect that makes this piece a standout in any room.
Measurements:
The silvering displays authentic crazing and crackling on the lower section — this is typical for genuine vintage mercury glass and adds desirable character. Importantly, there are no bare spots, flaking, chips, or cracks in the glass or wood. The body rests on a hand-painted wood faux marble foot in deep green with realistic veining and aged patina, beautifully imitating luxurious green marble. It is accented by a hand-carved gilt wood band featuring a raised laurel/wreath foliate motif that adds rich neoclassical detail.
The bottom is finished with a protective green felt pad. The lamp has been tested and is working. It appears to have been professionally rewired with new sockets, making it ready for immediate use (shade and bulbs not included).
A very hard-to-find lamp in this style and size, perfect for Hollywood Regency, French country, neoclassical, or eclectic interiors. The reflective mercury glass brings instant elegance and drama to a living room, bedroom, entryway, or buffet.
Condition: Excellent vintage condition with expected light patina consistent with age. No damage to glass, carving, or painted base.
