Lithgow Co-operative Society Bakery Token ONE LOAF Aluminum Australian Exonumia

This is an original early 20th-century bakery token from the Lithgow Co-operative Society Ltd. in New South Wales, Australia. Revived in 1901 by local miners, the Co-op was the heart of the Lithgow community. Members used these prepayment tokens to receive their daily bread, a system that supported the town's working class through various economic eras.

 

Item Details:

• Obverse: "LITHGOW CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY LTD" surrounding "LITHGOW" with decorative scrollwork. Text is crisp and highly legible.
• Reverse: "ONE LOAF" in bold serif type.
• Lustre: Retains a nice natural aged patina. No major corrosion or deep pitting common for aluminium of this age.
