Antique industrial brass tally check token NHW 143 circa 1850-1920 (poss Nantgarw
& Windsor Colliery)
This 32mm uniface antique brass tally tag or check token with
a pleasing uncleaned natural patina was possible struck for industrial or
colliery purposes as a tool tag or lamp check token.
- Identification: The initials
"N.H.W." likely represent a specific organization, company, or
government department, such as a colliery (mine), shipbuilder,
or military branch.
- Purpose: These tokens, often called
"tallies" or "checks," were commonly allocated to
workers to "clock on" to a shift or were exchanged for equipment
from a tool store.
- The
Number "143": This is a unique identification number assigned to
a specific individual or piece of equipment.
- Historical
Context: Similar
brass discs were used by organizations like Harland & Wolff (H
& W) and various UK mining collieries throughout the 20th century.
