Fire on the Mountain is Edward Abbey’s third published novel. The story follows a New Mexico rancher resisting government acquisition of his land, addressing themes of individual resistance and land use in the American West that appear again in Abbey’s later work.

The title page and copyright page both show 1962, with no indication of later printings. The book is bound in the publisher’s original red cloth spine over yellow boards, with black titling to the spine.

Condition:
No dust jacket. Boards are clean with strong color and light general handling wear. Binding is firm. Internally clean, with light, even toning to the pages. A well-preserved example of this early Abbey title.
