Up for sale is a stunning pair of Chinese porcelain guardian lions (foo dogs / shi lions) from the Republic of China period (circa 1910s-1930s). It found from local estate sale.
Crafted in Jingdezhen China, they feature vibrant yellow ground glaze with detailed green, blue, and brown low-fired enamels. The lions are richly modeled with fierce yet playful expressions: open mouths showing fangs, bushy manes in green curls, spiky dorsal fins/flames in blue and green, and classic attributes—one holds a embroidered ball (symbolizing unity/power), the other a cub (symbolizing family/protection). The bodies are decorated with flame motifs, scales, and auspicious tassels around the neck.
The one of lions base bears the square mark: "福建会馆游长子造" (Fujian Guild You Changzi Made). You Changzi (1874–1922) was a renowned porcelain sculptor from Fujian who worked at the Fujian Club in Jingdezhen; his signed works are prized for their sculptural quality and expressive modeling.
Condition: Very good vintage condition overall—no major chips, cracks, or restorations visible. Light surface wear, minor glaze crazing/pinpoints , natural firing imperfections, and some base dirt/patina consistent with it age porcelain.
