The design on the obverse was taken from the "Walking Liberty" design by Adolph A. Weinman, and is used for the American Silver Eagle. It depicts a full-length figure of Liberty in full stride, enveloped in folds of the flag, with her right hand extended and branches of laurel and oak in her left. Above the image "LIBERTY" is inscribed and the phrase "IN GOD WE TRUST" can be found in smaller letters to the right. The date is located beneath the central design
The central feature on the reverse is the sun rising over a body of water. Sunrays and clouds provide additional details. An inscription on the outer circle states "THE DAWN OF ... A NEW MILLENNIUM". The purity, weight, and content of "1 TR. OZ. .999 FS" is micro inscribed below the central design inside the circle
