This original bookplate is from the Reports of Explorations and Surveys, to ascertain the most practicable and economical route for a railroad from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean, made under the direction of the Secretary of War, published in 12 volumes between 1855 and 1861. The image represents the eye witness drawing of this subject first seen by the surveying adventurers and the  first published U.S. view of this location.
