Art Glass

A vintage art glass vase of the 'Mosaico Zanfirico' serie designed by Paolo Venini, Murano in 1954. The ocean blue glass body is decorated with horizontal and vertical netted lattimo canes. Signed with the acid etching 'venini murano ITALIA'. A rare authentic example of Venini's iconic designs.
Paolo Venini (1895-1959), a trained lawyer, was stationed near Venice during World War I, where he discovered his passion for glass mosaics. After the war, he initially worked as a lawyer, but was soon persuaded by art and antiques dealer Giacomo Cappellin to found a glass manufacturing company on Murano. In 1921, they founded the company Vetri Soffiati Muranesi Cappellin Venini & C.. Cappellin left the company in 1925 and founded his own company. Venini continued to run the company alone as Venini & C. In the following years, he achieved worldwide fame with his company. Many of the most famous glass designs can be traced back to Venini's collaboration with artists such as Carlo Scarpa and Fulvio Bianconi.
