Part of a large collection where the collector used cello tape along the edges to display this piece on a large rigid flip panel. There are thin lines of tape remnants along some or all of the edges. Also, most of the pieces have various degrees of toning, staining and small tear rough edges. Please have a good look at the photos to assess condition.
The Danbury & Norwalk Railroad (D&N) was chartered in 1835, constructed in the 1850s, and became operational in 1852, connecting the inland manufacturing city of Danbury, CT, with the port of Norwalk on Long Island Sound. It played a major role in transporting hats, lumber, and manufactured goods from Danbury’s booming industrial sector to New York markets. In 1886, the same year as this certificate, the line was leased to the Housatonic Railroad Company, creating an integrated north–south route through western Connecticut. A decade later, both companies were absorbed by the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad (1892). This certificate thus sits right at the transitional moment between independent operation and Housatonic lease.
