They are commonly used in everyday life. They can be used to wipe your hands and body, wrapped around the head to protect from dust, worn as an inner layer for kendo, as a headband, and more.
Many are produced and distributed as tournament commemorative items, novelties, or souvenirs.
This tenugui is intact and has certainly never been used.
The proof is the "offcuts."
Most tenugui are made in lengths of 60 meters, which are then cut to any length around 90 cm or 45cm to match the design.
Tenugui that are simply cut from cloth will unravel at the offcuts after washing. The loose threads become entangled and prevent further unraveling.
So, if the edges of the cloth remain in their original state, it is proof that the item is new and unused.
Over time, ink will stain and the item will become reverse-printed, but if the edges remain intact, it is proof that the item is new and unused.
This tenugui has become ink-soaked and back-brushed over time. There are also some other minor stains. These are due to aging and are stains transferred from other sources, not dirt.
