This is a virgin hard drive (not initialized on any Infiniium oscilloscope before, so the drivers are not tied to a specific unit). Virgin drives ensures maximum hardware compatibility with your installation (less guesswork and patchwork).
The firmware is upgraded to v2.41 (latest possible for Win98-based drives).
On first boot, Windows 98 will ask you for network card drivers twice (it gives you a default path C:\ossetup, just point it to the subfolder C:\ossetup\815VM-Ethernet and click 'Yes' to keeping newer version of the driver).
The Windows 98 drive is pretty fool-proof. If you get blue screens, random hangs, garbled drive names at BIOS, you'll need to have the motherboard serviced. I offer a motherboard direct exchange program. Contact me for details.
Windows XP is also required to run the newer firmware that has newer features like external probe scaling an offset. Even the latest firmware that can be installed on Windows 98 cannot handle it.
It is possible to upgrade to Windows XP, but it's such a pain that I offer a equivalent of N5383A upgrade kit/service (all materials + troubleshooting + technical support / installation included). Contact me for details.
The actual upgrade process involves dealing with licenses, BIOS, multiple configs, motherboard/interface/acq card compatibility, RAM, etc. it's riddled with traps. I got it figured out, but not without months of effort and going through multiple oscilloscope units/models to compare.
