An Austro-Hungarian Renaissance Revival mermaid pendant necklace dating from the late 19th century, a period known for its elaborate and historically-inspired jewellery designs that often referenced the art and motifs of the Renaissance.

Constructed of gilded silver, a technique used to create the look of fine gold jewellery which was popular in Vienna and Budapest during the Revival movement.

Its central element features a mermaid/siren or sea nymph, a classic motif from Renaissance ornamentation, which is surrounded by prominent, richly coloured, faceted amethyst gemstones and mother of pearl pieces.

The chain itself is equally detailed, composed of numerous intricate, repeating links which flaunt more amethysts and mother of pearl pieces, as well as openwork scroll links.

The reverse of the metalwork reveals further ornate craftsmanship, demonstrating the intricate fabrication work and the filigree-like quality of the overall design and contributing to the substantial but delicate appearance characteristic of this Revivalist style.

In great condition with all stones intact and gilding mostly present and vivid. There is some slight oxidization.
