San Diego Jaws participated in just the 1976 North American Soccer League (NASL) season, after relocating from Baltimore, where they were known as the Comets. The Jaws played their home matches at San Diego Stadium (now Snapdragon Stadium), but struggled to draw fans or deliver consistent productive results on the pitch. Despite their popular surf-themed branding, the team finished with a poor 4–20 record and saw limited local community engagement. After the 1976 season, the franchise relocated again, becoming the Las Vegas Quicksilvers for 1977.
North American Soccer League (NASL) was a professional soccer league which operated from 1968 to 1984, popularizing the sport in the United States and Canada. The NASL received substantial attention by attracting major international stars such as Pelé, Franz Beckenbauer, Johan Cruyff, Gerd Muller and George Best, which assisted in elevating the profile of soccer in geographic locales dominated by other team sports.
