Unprecedented Image Quality

Two aspherical elements, including an XA (extreme aspherical) element, ensure edge-to-edge resolution at all focal lengths. Two ED elements, two Super ED elements, and an ED aspherical element suppress chromatic aberration for clean, detailed images. Nano AR Coating II reduces flare and ghosting for excellent contrast, even in challenging lighting. Compatible with 1.4× and 2× teleconverters for extended reach.

A bright f/2.8 aperture and new 11-blade circular diaphragm create smooth, natural bokeh. The precision-crafted XA element eliminates onion-ring artifacts. With a minimum focusing distance of 0.4m (1.32 ft) at 70mm, the lens also delivers stunning close-up background separation.

Four XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors provide significantly improved AF speed and tracking accuracy. Enhanced subject tracking while zooming increases reliability when capturing fast-moving sports, wildlife, and action scenes.
