[This late 19th to early 20th century antique reproduction door knocker, called the 'Lincoln Imp' door knocker, was a popular grotesque figure in English folklore. It's typically made of brass or bronze and features a distinctive imp figure with a ring attached to its leg, which is used for knocking. According to long held belief, two imps were sent by the devil to cause mischief in the cathedral. An angel appeared and turned one of the imps to stone, where it remains perched high in the cathedral's Angel Choir. Grotesque figures like this were traditionally believed to ward off evil spirits or bad luck from a building.
