Charming mid-century Haitian straw marquetry wall panel, handmade from dyed and natural straw carefully arranged to depict a tropical village scene with palm trees, thatched huts, and villagers along a dirt path. This form of folk art became a major export of Haitian artisans during the 1950s–70s and reflects the island’s vibrant craft traditions. A wonderful example of vintage Caribbean décor—lightweight, textural, and ready to hang.
Condition Description
Good to very good vintage condition with light surface wear consistent with age. The straw finish shows mild tonal variation and faint edge marks but no missing inlay sections. Corners remain tight and frame intact. Retains the original “Made in Haiti” label on the back. Displays beautifully.
Note: The “Made in Haiti” label shown in the final photo is from a previous image of the same piece (before the label detached). It’s included here for provenance and identification only — the label itself is no longer present on the artwork.
