Pair of vintage Pfaltzgraff USA stoneware mugs from the Yorktowne line, featuring the classic cobalt blue floral motif on a cream-speckled body. Made in York, Pennsylvania during the 1970s, each mug measures approximately 3 inches tall by 4 inches wide and bears the impressed “Pfaltzgraff USA” mark on the base. Light shelf wear with a few small chips along the unglazed foot rim, consistent with age and use.
HISTORY
Pfaltzgraff is one of America’s oldest pottery manufacturers, founded in York County, Pennsylvania, in the early 1800s. The company became well known for its durable stoneware and functional tableware used in homes across the United States.
The Yorktowne pattern — light gray (salt-glazed) with cobalt blue floral motif (as described by Pfaltzgraff) — was introduced in 1967 and remained one of Pfaltzgraff’s most popular designs for decades. It features a light grayish-cream body with a hand-applied cobalt blue floral motif, inspired by early American salt-glazed pottery. Yorktowne pieces were made in the company’s Pennsylvania facilities through the late twentieth century and are recognized for their quality, weight, and traditional craftsmanship.
