New but slightly SHOP SOILED condition item.
Firefighters axe New York pattern. This axe is made in India to a pattern that was specified by the New York Fire Department for use by its personel. Condition new as from factory, however it has some scratches on paintwork apoun the head due to not having any packaging or not very much of it in its shipping ( please view close up photo's of the head area ) and there maybe marks on the handle as well but these are insignificant, I consider it as a slightly shop soiled but it is definately a new unused item. Handle is solid thick Hickory wood with steel reinforcing on the shaft near head in the form of straps attached to both sides of the handle that is rivetted through.
Dimensions. Length 91 cm , length of head 34 cm. Cutting edge 11 cm wide. Length of pick point 13 cm , thickness of handle 4.5 cm x 3.5 cm. Method of fastening head to shaft wedges. Strong heavy axe 3 kilos weight. Can be be used for other purposes as well like stump and root grubbing ( for cutting through roots ) in the purpose of digging out stumps.and demolishing work. Otherwise an excellent collectable axe as well.
