This coffee table looks like a work of art - because that's exactly what it is. Table top and all four sides consist of a large number of small teak burl wood slices and leftover pieces that have been carefully put together. Warm tones from honey to dark brown, each fragment with its own grain and character. The result is a solid cubic block that immediately defines the space in the living room.

120 cm wide, 80 cm deep, 40 cm high – classic coffee table format, unclassic surface. Handcrafted in Indonesia from recycled teak burl offcuts, FLEGT certified. This is sustainable - and looks better than any solid wood panel made from one piece.

Teak burl is the most distinctive material Java's forests have to offer - gnarled, dense, with a grain created by decades of growth underground. When processing, there are always leftover pieces that are too small for furniture panels. The RIAU uses exactly these pieces.

The craftsmen in Java sort, cut and lend the fragments according to a carefully planned pattern - from the table top to the sides. Everything is then sanded and oiled together. The result is more solid and denser than a one-piece panel – because the glue joints hold the small pieces of wood together like mortar holds a stone floor.
