Each pump arrives ready to run, with a plastic manifold on 4 mm ID outlets and a short connector pipe to join it to the pump, so several air stones (available separately) can run from one pump on standard 4 mm airline.

How noisy are they?
Hailea markets these as “Super Silent”, and at under 40 dB they are quiet for pumps of this output. They are not silent. Like every diaphragm pump they produce a continuous hum.
Is the air output figure per outlet or in total?
In total. The ACO-9820’s 60 L/min is the whole pump’s output shared across its ten manifold outlets, not 60 L/min from each.
How deep can the air stones go?
That is set by the pump’s pressure rating rather than its output. The ACO-9810’s 0.25 bar corresponds to roughly 2.5 m of water and the ACO-9820’s 0.3 bar to roughly 3 m - but both are measured at zero flow, so a stone sitting at that depth receives essentially no air. Work well inside the figure: the deeper the stone, the less air reaches it. A stone that is too small, old or dirty reduces it further. To lose as little as possible on the way, use large-bore airline, keep the bends gentle, and clip the connections.
Can I use it outdoors?
Not outdoors. The manufacturer specifies a dry, dust-free indoor location. There is no published IP rating. Run only the airline out to the water.
Can water flow back up the pipe to the pump?
Yes, and it will damage the pump. Back syphoning is a risk whenever the pump can sit at or below the water level, in which case non-return valves are essential to protect it. Site it above the water line and fit a non-return valve to the airlines. Inexpensive valves are available separately in our shop.
What happens if I run it with the outlet closed?
Excess back pressure shortens the life of the pump through overheating and stressing the diaphragm. Never fully close the outlet while the pump is running and avoid working it at excess depth or with restricted outputs. If you want less air at one stone, balance the run with inline valves letting air escape rather than restricting the pump itself.
Can I service it myself?
The inlet filter sponge is the only user-serviceable part. It lifts out for cleaning - wash it in a neutral detergent and rinse it thoroughly, since detergent residue is harmful to fish.
