Offered for sale is a unique, original wood carving by Claude Bolton. The carving is a Rugged Vaquero Mexican cowboy caricature, and is hand-carved from a single piece of wood. It was commissioned and acquired directly from Mr. Bolton by the owner, who knew him personally and attended several of his seminars. Bolton always carved "cowboys", and did not use Mexican Vaquero as the subject of his usual carvings. The owner specified that this piece be of a Mexican Vaquero.
There are no other "Vaquero" pieces are known to have been carved by Claude Bolton. This is believed to be the only one!
After his death in 2001, much of his art was re-acquired by his family, and also by several museums. This piece was retained by its purchaser, a loyal admirer of Bolton's incredible skill as a wood carver. This is a museum-quality wood carving. The artists name (C.W.Bolton) and the production date (8/83) is burned into the bottom of the base.

About the Artist: Claude W. Bolton, a retired Texas educator from Fort Worth, Texas, started carving in 1974. He wrote three books on caricature carving: Carving Cowboys; Carving Cowboy Faces; and, Carving Heads, Hats, and Hair. He conducted nearly 100 seminars in 20 states and was an instructor of the War Eagle, Arkansas, summer seminar for several years.
Claude organized the Fort Worth Woodcarvers in 1975 and was a founding member of CCA. He was a member of the North Texas Woodcarvers, the Texas Wildfowl Carvers, and the California Carvers Guild.
Claude passed away on October 29, 2001.
