A large original WW2 British Army officer's 'FIELD COMPOSITE' map which was assembled in May 1944 for "OPERATION DIADEM". 

This operation was the fourth "BATTLE of MONTE CASSINO", in which the Allies finally broke the seemingly impenetrable German fortifications blocking the main Highway route to ROME.

The map consists of FOUR individual sheets produced at the highly detailed scale of 1:25,000 and, with CASSINO at its centre, this unique composite gives a fantastic overview of the surrounding geography and highlights the importance of the road network.

The four maps have been pasted together and there is some discolouration along the joins over which has occurred over the last 80+ years.

Needless to say, this is an important map documenting a critical moment in WW2 history.
