Vintage Outsider Art Self-Portrait: Artist Convalescing in Bed

Dimensions: 12.25 x 9.25 in.

This intimate self-portrait depicts the artist confined to bed during a period of illness. Rendered in 1980, the composition centers on the figure of the artist, propped upright with the aid of a support handle. Surrounding the bed are magazines, books, and other personal objects, situating the work within a space of both convalescence and creativity.

The drawing is signed in the lower right corner, “Scoggins 80 To Geneva.” On the reverse, the artist has inscribed a descriptive note in red ink, further contextualizing the scene.

The work is mounted on a dark brown backing; the sheet itself is slightly off-center within the frame. Condition reflects age and use, with minor wear visible.
