This watch is in good vintage condition. It is currently ticking.

I think the mainspring in the watch has broken.As a vintage watch with unknown service history, this watch maybe require a service from your local watchmaker for long-term reliable timekeeping. Please See photos!

A steel mid-size manually wound wristwatch.

This mid-sized wristwatch is in remarkably good condition for its age, with a lovely beige patinable  dial and bold, blued steel hands.

The West End Watch Company was based in Geneva and St Imier in Switzerland. Originally part of Alcide Droz & Fils of St Imier, the West End Watch Co. also had a major presence in Bombay and Calcutta. In Bombay, the West End Watch Co. were the agents for Longines. West End Watch Co’s trademark of a ‘W’ within a 6 pointed star was registered in 1938 and appears on the outside case back of this watch. In the same year (1938), West End Watch Co. registered the model name ‘Sowar’ which appears on the dial of this watch.

For the construction of the case, The West End Watch Co turned to the specialist watch case making company Taubert & Fils. From the late 19th Century, when it existed under the name Frères Borgel, Taubert & Fils was one of the finest Geneva based case makers and specialists in the manufacture of high quality dirt and moisture-resistant cases. The company’s case stamp was F.B. within a cartouche. Borgel cases are of exceptional quality and were used by some of the finest makers, including Patek Philippe, for whom Taubert famously supplied the superb screw-back case for the chronograph reference, 1463.

The dial has aged very well to a nice light beige colour.

However, these watches have been around for a while, so please keep their age in mind when purchasing.

Also, most watches will state they are water resistant, however given their age, we cannot guarantee this, so please do not expose the watch to water.
