Antique and vintage items make nicer than new gifts
Item
The Queen of Art Deco, Clarice Cliff, captured the vibrancy of the 1920s and 1930s with much of her pottery including a range that reflected the excitement of the Age of Jazz with a series of flat-back figurines depicting couples dancing.
Clarice Cliff remained an inspiration to other potters throughout the 20th Century and some produced their own versions such as this dancing couple fashioned and hand-painted for 'Past Times', the well known British high street retailer in the 1990s.
Past Times specialised in replica antiques and vintage-style gifts. It was originally a mail-order company founded in 1986 and it traded on the high street until it went into administration and closed.
These Jazz Age figurines are not fakes; they are clearly backstamp with the printed 'Past Times' logo on the base. These are now quite collectalble ceramics in their own rights - nice decorative pieces - and are becoming quite hard to find. They are, however, much more affordable than the original pieces by Clarice Cliff that inspired them.
Note that this is just one of several similar Jazz Age pieces we are currently listing...please visit our Ebay shop.
Condition
Whenever possible our asking prices are based on either our knowledge of the genre and rareness or on what similar pieces have been sold for on the international market, rather than what some sellers are asking, which are usually two very different things!
You will normally find that our prices sit somewhere in the middle between auction and professional dealer prices and the current market. We are always willing to consider realistic offers.
Shipping
We have a 100pc success rate for over a decade in successfully shipping fragile antiques and collectables across the UK and the wider World. We only charge what the Post Office and couriers charge us and subsidise the cost of packing materials.
International shipping? Since Covid, we have started to use eBay's Global Shipping Programme for packages over 2kg because it has proved to be competitive and reliable. However, this package will be light enough to be sent using the Royal Mail's Airmail service and we have priced it accordingly.
WE ALWAYS TRY TO HAVE AN INTERESTING RANGE OF ANTIQUES
