We left Africa on foot many millennia ago and traversed the continents. The seas kept pace with our ambitions, and our thirst for exploration guided us forward, or more so survival. Then came the bloody wars, and ages of prosperity and calm, but there was one land that taunted our efforts, that was the sky above.

Great minds like Leonardo designed incredible machines that alas never took to the skies. But our desire unrequited, we paced on, trying to conquer the infallible.

Though finally, we built mechanical marvels to traverse the heavens and beyond, our ancestors dreamt big in their minds and spun great tales of mighty heroes who made air their companion as we do thoughts.

Alis Luminis or "Wings of Light" is a hand-drawn playing card deck in celebration of these mighty heroes from yesteryears. 

Wings inspired the tuck box, with the magical, gentle butterfly adorning the back and the mighty Peryton reigning the front. The artist illustrated this beautiful hand-drawn deck, over a period of one and a half years, meticulously crafting it with her dedication and love.

The card back is themed around the dance of nature. The gold elements, all printed in special metallic ink, is to showcase the majesty of flight.

The mythical figures that make up the deck are threaded around a story. A future tale of mythical legends. The story goes like this...          

 The divine wings float above a celestial heavenly plane, as the great Hermes, the king, commands the heavens with his staff. Nike, the queen, bestows the grace of victory, and the mighty Pegasus roams the skies bringing forth the assurance that defeat shall not touch this day.    

The ethereal lotus blooms from the other realms. The mighty Oberon, the king of the fairies reigns over his forest divine. The gentle Sylph fairy, dreams of enchanted memories, and the magical unicorn graces the otherworld with its beauty and majesty.  

 The shield is lifted. Icarus nears the sun as his wings melt under the tremendous heat. The great Valkyrie prepares for war, defending the righteous to victory, as the mythical Peryton looks beyond. War for sure is coming.    

 The divine flower is the gentle offering to the Gods. Eros draws his arrows to surrender the heart of the most shielded, as Isis blesses the Earth with her eternal boon. The Phoenix flies into the realms of aetherial skies, its ashes a long-forgotten history. Peace is near, a golden age begins under the gentle breeze of love and immortality.
