BMC Toys - American Revolution General the Marquis de Lafayette  - 54mm scale

1 unpainted plastic figure

Lafayette wanted to become a soldier, but with no wars in France, he sailed to America in 1777 to join the American Revolution (1775-1783) and fight for independence against England. Believing the war reflected his principles, he volunteered despite lacking combat experience. General George Washington took him under his wing. Lafayette served as the go between between France and the Americans, working to secure supplies, money, and troops to aid the Revolutionary Army.Mounted General George Washington.

After earning the respect of American generals, Lafayette was given greater responsibilities and eventually was given command of American troops. Seeing how poorly they were supplied, he used his personal fortune to provide support.

By 1780, Major General Lafayette commanded nearly 2,200 troops and served as France's official representative to the American army. His success in securing French reinforcements was pivotal to the American victory at the Battle of Yorktown.
