You are bidding on a uniquely shaped and beautiful hand turned RED GUM BURL BOWL, with a natural or "LIVE" edge, that I have signed and dated on the foot. 

• Bowl varies in width but is on average 7 1/2" at its widest and is a little over 2" tall
• A beautiful piece of wood from a center section of a tree that even the detailed photos can’t do it justice as it's extremely striking with the beautiful colors and figure being displayed 
• This piece was made from a burl cap and shows that in the underside of the bowl
• The item has been sanded to 600 grit, then coated with a sanding sealer and followed with 4 coats of gloss lacquer

This is a VERY UNIQUE piece and presented several difficulties in turning. The fact that the weight of the wood is never "centered" on the lathe make it a challenge that most turners don't want to deal with. As a result, it is very rare to see a bowl turned in this manner for sale anywhere. This type of form is also impossible to make on a mass production machine so you will never see one in a box store. This is truly a unique piece that takes a great deal of planning, time and effort to produce. It is further complimented in that it was turned from a Burl Cap with the top outer edge of the cap being the bottom or underside of the bowl. As nice as this looks in the photos, it looks and feels so much better in person. The Burl Figure allows for an intense shine that really shows the item well. This bowl is NOT a food safe item. I have been a woodworker for over 20 years, making everything from complete custom cabinetry, to bowls, boxes, and pens on the lathe.  However, due to health issues, I now only turn projects on the lathe to give myself something to do for the few hours a day I can stand.
