This original military map comes from a small batch recently sourced in the US, and their remarkable story is well documented by the various official ink stamps which have been added at various points in their History.
They were originally produced in Poland by the "WOJSKOWY INSTYTUT GEOGRAFICZNY" (MILITARY GEOGRAPHICAL INSTITUTE) and captured by the Germans in late 1939, only to be captured again by the United States Army towards the end of the War.
Therefore, some have Polish stamps, some have Nazi stamps (although in order to comply with eBay's policies I will not be selling them here), and all have US stamps of one kind or another, even including some with post-war C.I.A. and CONGRESS MAP LIBRARY ink stamps. The combinations vary, so I will describe and photograph each map's stamps accordingly as I list them separately.
“AMS…” serial number refers to the “ARMY MAP SERVICE” (US ARMY)
“POL…” serial number (“POL” code is simply an abbreviation of “POLAND”)
“MAP COLLECTION - PATTEE LIBRARY - PENNSYLVANIA STATE UNIVERSITY” - as with many captured maps, Governments eventually tend to donate them as educational resources to public organisations.
“WITHDRAWN” - clearly a deaccession stamp when it was removed from one of the above archives.
