Jesper Myrfors, a Swedish-American artist, was the original art director and a key illustrator for Magic: The Gathering. Joining Wizards of the Coast in 1993, he defined the game’s iconic visual style, designing the card back, mana symbols, and tap symbol with Christopher Rush. His vibrant, detailed artwork, including Howling Mine, Shivan Dragon, and Serendib Efreet, appeared on over 70 cards from Alpha to Homelands. A University of Washington fine arts graduate, Myrfors influenced fantasy gaming art profoundly. Now based in Seattle, he continues to paint, sculpt, and design games, leaving a lasting legacy in the industry.
