• This ex-voto is a handmade wall hanging. This piece of folk art tells a story in words and picture and is all hand painted directly onto the tin.
• The retablo shows a woman in bed and her husband is coming in the door. Another man is climbing out the window. The Virgin of the Solitude is looking down on the scene.
• The words are loosely translated as follows: “I give thanks to the Virgin of the Solitude that my old man didn’t find out that I was cheating on him. Petra, Oax. Mex. 1962.”
• The tin is painted with dark background and pops of color and is done in a primitive style.
• The tin sign measures just under 6 inches across x 4 inches in height.
• There is a small hole at the top with a string attached – all ready for you to hang.
• The back of the tin is rusty and scratched, as the artist used a piece of scrap tin to create the piece. The tin may be a little warped and may not lie totally flat on a surface.
• This is an original piece of artwork, bought from the artist's representative in Mexico City. The date of creation is not known as the artists who do this type of work sometimes use a historic date to show context for the scene created. Sometimes the artists and their families hold on to works for many years before making them available for sale so it is impossible to say when it was created. Sometimes they make available pieces as they are created.
• The artist intended irregularities, uneven edges, slight bends in the tin, some tears, holes, rust, scratches and paint splotches.
