Mother's Day in Wartime: Ukrposhta Presents a
Postage Stamp in Honor of Indomitable Ukrainian Mothers
09.05.2025
On May 9,
Ukrposhta put into circulation a new symbolic postage stamp "I live for
you. To Mother's Day".
It was
created to thank mothers who are waiting for children from the war, serve in
the ranks of the Defense Forces, raise a new generation of Ukrainians, and have
lost their dearest ones.
This year,
Ukrposhta is celebrating Mother's Day, which is celebrated on the second Sunday
of May in accordance with the Presidential Decree of 1999, with the premiere of
a special postal miniature "I live for you. To Mother's Day". The
official introduction into circulation of the stamp, which has become a symbol
of honor and gratitude to Ukrainian mothers, took place on May 9.
For the
fourth year in a row, Ukrainians are celebrating Mother's Day in the face of a
full-scale invasion. On this day, despite the trials of war, Ukrainians honor
women who raised an indomitable nation. Ukrposhta dedicated the new postage
stamp to all mothers who blessed their children to defend the Motherland, to
mothers who preserve the memory of the fallen, which cannot be destroyed by an
enemy bullet, to mothers who decided to join the ranks of the Defense and
Security Forces of Ukraine, fighting for a future for their children in a free
and independent Ukraine.
The author
of the miniature was Honored Artist of Ukraine, master of iconography Oleksandr
Okhapkin. His work “Under the protection of the Mother of God” won the online
vote for the best postage stamp in 2024. This year, his iconographic line comes
to life again on the postage miniature.
Oleksandr
Okhapkin said that he depicted a mother on the miniature embracing the soul of
her fallen son, and the sun and white birds are signs of longing and eternal
memory.
The center
of the composition depicts an emotional scene of a woman in traditional
Ukrainian dress embracing a soldier in camouflage. The woman, symbolizing the
image of a mother, wraps her son in a bright yellow embroidered scarf, and her
face expresses deep sadness and tenderness.
The
circulation of the postage stamp "I live for you. To Mother's Day" is
320,000 copies, the denomination of the stamp is U (corresponds to the tariff
for sending a domestic plain letter without declared value weighing up to 50
grams and a postcard). In addition, Ukrposhta has issued 20,000 copies of the
"First Day" envelope.
To Mother's
Day
I LIVE FOR
YOU …
For
Mother's Day, which is celebrated in Ukraine for the fourth year in a row in
conditions of large-scale Russian aggression, Ukrposhta presents the miniature
" I live for you " in honor of Ukrainian women who raised an
invincible nation.
This is a
dedication to Ukrainian mothers who blessed their children to protect the state
and pray for them every day. To mothers whose children died in this terrible
war unleashed by Russia, who live with a memory that cannot be destroyed by an
enemy bullet. To mothers who decided to join the ranks of the Defense and
Security Forces of Ukraine, fighting for a future for their little ones in a
free and independent Ukraine. We congratulate all Ukrainian mothers on the
holiday! May the mother's heart be filled with peace and love, and every word
of a mother's prayer be heard! May all mothers wait for their children from the
war, and mother-warriors will again become simply mothers.
