APILCO stands for Ateliers de Porcelaine de CHauvigny (or originally “Albert Pillivuyt & Cie” in early years) — a French porcelain manufacturer based in Chauvigny, France in the historic porcelain region around Limoges.
The company’s roots go back to the early 19th century (porcelain production in Chauvigny since 1826) and it has supplied high-quality porcelain cookware and tableware for both professional chefs and home use for over a century.
APILCO’s products are typically marked with “Apilco Porcelaine à Feu France” on the base, meaning oven-safe fired porcelain made in France, and many vintage pieces were hand-decorated or lithographed with motifs like birds, game, or florals.
The manufactory became part of the larger Deshoulières group, a major French porcelain and tableware producer (originating in 1826 and 1799 depending on the plant). APILCO was incorporated into Deshoulières and production stayed in France under that umbrella.
These casserole dishes and serving dishes are oven-to-table porcelain cookware — durable, dense porcelain that withstands high heat, typical of French porcelaine à feu (oven porcelain).
The bird motifs (game birds, ducks, pheasants, etc.) are decorative designs — sometimes hand-painted or transfer-printed — added during manufacturing, especially on mid-20th century or later vintage pieces.
