A very nice excavated example of a 1 piece flat Revolutionary Period Naval Officer's large coat button.  Buttons like this were worn by Captains and Commanders in the British Navy during the American Revolutionary War years.  American Officers often wore the same types of buttons as their British counterparts as there was no official Naval button for American Officers during the Revolution.  See "MILITARY BUTTONS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION" by Don Troiani pages 9 & 10 for similar examples.  This button has an excavated patina.  Button measures 29.09mm.  See photos for condition details.
