This is an incredible & extremely RARE silver plate set that was made in the USA / Meriden, Connecticut.

This is a “smoking set”! It is a ball footed tray holding a large, a medium and 2 small vessels plus a little lidded pot with a chain-linked top cap that opens slightly. The tray has a type of tree branch designed handle that was broken off at one end. The tray has moulded spots for the vessels to all sit in or fit into exactly / custom designed. There is a repetitive 5 star linear design that is all over everything. Each piece is stamped “Meridan B. Company 21” / a total of 6 pieces. It’s hefty at 3 lbs. 6 oz.

This was made by an American company well known for their silver plate and “quadruple” plate over a pewter-like metal called Britannia. I could not find anything else like this set on eBay or Google images. It’s very RARE and an early Art Nouveau style made between 1850-1899. A frog, a fly and loose flowing floral designs are on the large vessel as well a strawberry plant in a realistic representation! Notice intricate folded edges on each vessel, plus the integrated tree branch handle … it all show glorious craftsmanship and serious admiration for natural beauty!!

In great condition commensurate with age - dust and tarnish are present. Can be polished ( I would dip it ). Tray is bent on both sides of tray ( unless that was intended )
