The product is a vintage Akai CS-M40R Cassette Deck that is in working condition. It is a multi voltage unit, set for U.S. voltage. Probably bought by military person back in the day. It includes a service manual and extra parts deck, making it a valuable collector's item for those interested in vintage audio and electronics. I have personally owned and restored this deck, probably had about 8 years now. I had it listed before and then took it down because I really liked it! However, I have 5 decks including this one and I feel it’s time to thin the hurd a bit. I love the quick reverse, it is instant due to a double Sendust head and the double idler wheels and servos that instantly change the tape direction at the press of the button or at end of tape. The belts are all newer with little use on them. Sounds very nice and records, as well. No real issues, it rewinds slower than the Fast Forward, but everything is working well. Please check the video of operation. Cosmetically it displays beautifully, just a couple light scratches as shown in pictures. Wood grain look metal case has a few light scratches towards rear, not very noticeable. There is also a name and S.S. number lightly scrawled on back plate, doesn’t show that much and fortunately is where no one sees it. Also a plus is the extra deck for parts if needed (some of the parts are very hard and expensive to find). Last picture is from Service Manual showing specs. Made in Japan, this cassette deck is a rare find and a great addition to any vintage audio collection. Of course, as with all vintage equipment there are no guarantees, but it has worked well after I initially got it back in proper working order and I feel pretty confident it will continue to be enjoyable for it’s new owner! And if a problem arises down the road you have extra parts and a service Manual to help you or your technician, which is a big help! Shipping both decks together, weighs in around 40 pounds. So shipping will be $70. but if you want a nice deck with the insurance of spare parts, it will be worth it! Thanks for looking.
