1918 Press Photo Residents of a Tokyo suburb wade through rising typhoon waters
This photograph, which has just reached this country, shows some of the results of the typhoon, which passed over Tokyo, Japan, in the latter part of September. It was the most serious storm of its kind that has visited the city in fifty years, as it was followed by a tidal wave, which swept over the seawall of Tokyo, destroying many lives and wrecking considerable property. The photo shows inhabitants of Etsuchijama, a suburb of Tokyo, wading out to obtain drinking water from the broken main, that brings their only supply. The main crossed the Aioi Bridge, which was wrecked by the tidal wave. Photo measures 7.75 x 10 inches. Photo Is dated 1918.
