ITEM: This is an original Vari-Vue lenticular 3D motion card showing an underwater scene, fish, coral reef, ocean with great motion. These are a thick lenticular print and are slightly bowed from age. Marked as G-17, Vari-Vue, Mount Vernon, NY. Good shape, it measures about 5 by 4 inches. Because of the bow, these have to be shipped at the 3 ounce rate.

Vari-Vue was the pioneering company behind lenticular printing, a technology that created the illusion of motion or depth in printed images. Founded in the 1940s by Victor Anderson, Vari-Vue became famous for producing animated postcards, novelty items, and 3D-effect prints. The company’s lenticular technology was widely used in advertising, political campaign buttons (such as the iconic "I Like Ike" button for Dwight D. Eisenhower), and collectible memorabilia. Throughout the 1950s-1970s, Vari-Vue's products were hugely popular, appearing on everything from Cracker Jack prizes to magazine covers. Though lenticular printing evolved beyond Vari-Vue, the company’s name remains synonymous with the early days of motion-print technology.
