Purple Silk Yukiwa Design Montsuki Iro-Tomesode Kimono
I grew up with kimono and this is from my personal selection series of Kimono and kitsuke accessories; items that I find to exhibit a special quality, either exceptional design, superior workmanship or just something quintessentially Japanese about them…
Tomesode of this type were normally purchased for someone about to get married with the expectation that they would be worn for special occasions. Normally, the brighter the colors used, the younger the person it was intended for.
It is made of luxurious purple silk with five Katabami-Mon family crests. The design is a gorgeous swath of cream across the bottom, with “Yukiwa" containing birds, flowers, etc. There is the seal of the maker inside as well as a “Pearltone” tag - which is a kind of stain-resistant treatment for silk.
Note that purple silk looks different depending on the light and we have atempted to be as accurate as possible. This Tomesode is absolutely stunning!
It is in excellent condition and has been carefully stored so it has no stains or odor and was no doubt owned by someone of wealth and social standing as it would have been very costly when new.
It comes in the protective washi paper Tatoushi. See photos for measurements and other details!
