This journal was made with love 'somewhere in the Shire' - and would make a good present for people who love the books of J R Tolkien, and the movies of the same.

The distressed leather cover bears a hand-tooled 'LORD of the RINGS' title in Tolkien's original MiddleEarth script. Strictly speaking the cover has not been 'distressed': I have simply chosen leather with lots of irregular natural features, in order to give it an aged and 'middle-earth-ish' feel. I have attached photos of several different covers as examples.

These leather journals have pages of a high quality 150gsm plain cartridge drawing paper for writing, drawing and sketching, in a rugged but attractive binding of vintage cow hide. The paper is also suited for water colour and for writing with a fountain pen.

Binding: is vintage cow hide, coloured with a natural dye 'mahogany brown' dye that is derived from tree bark. The leather is of a heavy quality, and is thick but supple.The binding will NOT crack, tear, or disintegrate (as glued bindings do!). The book will lie flat and remain open at any page you select.

Fastening: is a durable wrap-around leather tie-strap that doubles as a bookmark.

I love working with leather, but for ethical reasons I only use vintage leather for my books- ie leather from working animals that have come to the end of their lives.
