Antique Chinese Reversible-Faces Medicine Bottle, underside dated to a Guiyou year, probably 1873.
Flattened rectangular form, inscribed
to both sides "Beiping Deshoutang
yaodian/Chuwen qushu dan, Yu zhi
ping'an dan" in iron-red.
Provenance: For a similar bottle,
see Robert Hall, "Serendipity, Chinese
Snuff Bottles XVI", no. 84, where the inscription has been translated as: Beiping, The Hall of Virtue and Long Life, Medicine shop/Pills for the removal of disease and dispelling of heat, [Imperially] made pills for calm and ease.
Estimated Value by Freeman’s Auction between $800-$1,200. This is everything I could find about this piece. Acquired at estate auction of a collector, which I am not.
