The Lower Lias formation in Blockley, Gloucestershire, UK, is renowned worldwide for producing exceptional fossil specimens. Among its most prized discoveries are classic Pleurotomaria Tuberculata gastropod fossils, which offer valuable insight into prehistoric life. This formation is now permanently closed to collectors and as a result these outstanding gastropod fossils have become increasingly scarce and challenging to acquire, heightening their desirability among collectors and researchers. 

The gastropods unearthed from this region date back to the Jurassic period, approximately 195 million years ago. Their ancient origin lends significant scientific importance to the specimens, as they represent a snapshot of life during a formative era of Earth’s history.

Many of these gastropod fossils from Blockley display partial agatisation. This process occurs when hollow spaces within a fossil are filled by silica-rich fluid, which subsequently hardens and gives the fossil a crystalline appearance. This unique form of preservation enhances both the scientific value and aesthetic appeal of the specimens.

The fossil is presented in a lovely black cardboard display box, which is 78 x 60 x 25mm, for display purposes and to keep them safe - it also contains an information label describing the contents.
