This is a room temperature soak patina solution and very simple to use.

Make sure that the piece that you wish to patina is completely clean, I used a weak acid solution on the piece of shiny copper sheet in the picture to make sure that there wasn't any finger grease on it.

To use just put the piece into the solution and leave it to soak, or put a pool of the solution where you want the patina to develop, for copper the colour starts to change after approx 10 minutes, the colour change progresses from a orangey brown, through Reds, Purples and Blues as seen in the main picture.

If the piece that you want to patina has a dull used finish, then the patina will work just as well but the final patina will have a less shiny finish.

Once the colour you want has been achieved the piece should be washed with clean water and left to dry then it can be sealed with wax, I used Renaissance micro-crystalline wax, or a waterbased varnish.

Note - for a shiny final patina the piece also needs to be shiny 

The solution can be used more than once but it will loose it's potency and the colour changes will take longer and eventually stop. 

The solution should be used in a well ventilated space and treated with the same caution as any normal household cleaner, keep away from your skin and eyes, it may stain clothes and furniture so take appropriate precautions.
