"For auction is NWA 13905, a highly shocked L6 meteorite approved by experts. This flight-oriented piece, weighing 436.87 grams, is the main mass of this fall and features a striking appearance resembling a shark. Discovered in Mauritania in 2020, this meteorite consists of twenty identical stones with smooth sand-blasted surfaces. Upon closer inspection, light brown and gray grains, distinct chondrules, and a dark gray groundmass can be observed on saw-cut surfaces. Notably, polished cut-faces reveal visible shock melt veins. Petrographic analysis by C. Agee at UNM shows porphyritic and barred chondrules, recrystallized silicates, Fe/Ni-metal, troilite, and plagioclase grains up to ~200 μm in size. History: Purchased from Mostafa Hnini in December 2020. Physical characteristics: Twenty identically appearing stones found together. All stones have smooth sand blasted exterior surfaces. Saw-cut surfaces reveal light brown and gray grains, a few distinct chondrules, all of which are set in a dark gray groundmass. Distinct shock melt veins are clearly visible in polished cut-faces.
Petrography: (C. Agee,UNM) Microprobe examination of a polished mount shows a few porphyritic and barred chondrules, the groundmass consists of recrystallized silicates, Fe,Ni-metal, and troilite. Plagioclase grains are up to ~200 m in size.
Geochemistry: (C. Agee,UNM) Olivine Fa24.10.3, Fe/Mn=472, n=8; low-Ca pyroxene Fs20.10.2Wo1.70.2, Fe/Mn=281, n=6.
